SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 12:1-6

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 8: Is there any other Biblical passage that can help me understand this passage better?

Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 12 October 2023

This is a song of joy and gladness that flows from grateful hearts by those who experienced the salvation of the Lord. The song begins with an acknowledgement of the justice of God in the punishment He meted out against Israel (v.1). What a joy and a relief to know and be assured that when God punishes us, He will not destroy us.
An adage says that a father disciplines with one arm and curdles the child with the other hand. This seems like the testimony of God’s people as they return to enjoy His love and mercies. In appreciation of Christ’s work of redemption, we also need to express our gratitude to the one who paid the price to make us children of God.
There is no testimony as great as a personal experience of God. We learn from such experiences. We also own the experiences all our lives. How is that expressed in v.2? As we rejoice in the knowledge that God is faithful and merciful, we must also live in fear and trembling so that rebellion may not be seen in our lives.
